Carrier tape is a key strip product in the field of electronic packaging, featuring a specific thickness, edge positioning holes, and evenly distributed component cavities on the surface. It needs to be used in conjunction with cover tape and reels. The core specifications focus on size, material, performance, and compatibility, precisely matching the packaging requirements of electronic components and SMT automated production. [__LINK_ICON]

I. Basic Size Specifications
Size is the core for the carrier tape to match components with the surface mount technology (SMT) machine. Key parameters need to be strictly controlled for error to ensure the accuracy of material supply.
Bandwidth: The mainstream specifications range from 4mm to 104mm, with common ones including 8mm, 12mm, 16mm, 24mm, 32mm, 56mm, 72mm, 88mm, 104mm, 108mm etc. It can be precisely matched according to the size of the components. For instance, 8mm bandwidth is commonly used for small resistors, while 56mm or higher bandwidth can be selected for large connectors.

2. Cavity parameters: The length, width and depth of the cavity (pocket) need to be compatible with the size of the component. Generally, the depth is 0.1-0.3mm greater than the height of the component to prevent the component from being compressed during packaging. The shape can be customized as circular, square, irregular, etc., to ensure the stable placement of components

3. Positioning and Accuracy: The diameter of edge positioning holes (guide holes) is mostly 1.5mm or 2.0mm, with an error controlled within ±0.01mm, precisely matching the positioning pins of the surface mount technology (SMT) placement machine. The edge flatness error of the belt body is ≤0.1mm/m, and the feeding accuracy can reach ±0.1mm, ensuring high-speed feeding without deviation

4. Length and Reel: The length of the carrier tape can be customized. It is usually wound on reels of 7-inch, 10-inch, 13-inch, 15-inch and other specifications. The inner space of the reel should correspond to the bandwidth (for example, an 8mm bandwidth with an 8mm inner space reel). The thickness of some thickened reels can reach 1.6mm.
